This dainty, but hardy species is one of 3 sub-species; their throat color varies at different elevations along volcano slopes. This one is of the Talamanca race. Males establish and defend their territory when courting; also perform various aerial displays to attract females. WINNER of SECOND PLACE in the contest: Hummingbirds of Costa Rica!
